When I first started applying for airlines I had no idea how to make a resume or what working experience they are looking for in a candidate for cabin crew job. I made so many mistakes that now looking back I obviously see why they didn’t hire me at that point. I wish I had somebody to tell me what to do and what not to, how to write my resume, what keywords to use, etc, but there was not much information out there like it is nowadays.
So, in this article, I’m going to tell you about a few mistakes that I personally made and I’m not proud of, in order to make you not have the same mistakes and speed up your process of being hired as a cabin crew.
-
Your email address is not appropriate
Yes, you read that right. It happens when your email address is loveuloads@ or there4you@ etc. What company do you think they want to hire somebody with this email? I telling you. NONE!
Before applying for your cabin crew job make sure you make a professional email address, preferably containing your name or your name initials. It looks a lot more professional and it can boost your chances to be called for an interview.
-
You write the resume in your native language
When it comes to international companies such as Qatar, Emirates or Etihad the ones that are in charge of recruiting new people are usually foreigners. Every time you send your resume to an airline make sure you send it in English otherwise the recruitment office might not even understand it and not sending you an invitation for their assessment day.
-
Inappropriate pictures on the resume:
When I say inappropriate I mean selfies, a picture at the beach, at the mountains, in a night dress or wedding dress and so on. When you send your resume for a cabin crew position make sure your picture is professional, preferably on a white or blue background wearing business attire. Make your resume professional
When the airlines are organizing open days they can expect even 1000+ people to show up. It is very hard to choose the right people for the cabin crew job when you see so many resumes in just one day. So what can you do to attract the recruiters attention?
- Don’t use the free templates you find on the internet. You know Europass template? Well, most of the people use it. How can a recruiter take into account your resume if he sees another 500 the same format? I’m telling you, it’s very hard.
- Don’t make it more than one page (maximum 2). When you have to review so many resumes in a day it’s again very hard to check a resume that has 3-4 pages instead of a resume that has just one page. So don’t make your CV too long.
- Make it clear. Don’t write too much. Focus on important things.
- Highlight the customer service experience. Did you work in a bar/ restaurant/ as nanny/ nurse etc? make sure you write that in your resume. Volunteering and internships? Even better. When I got hired one of my jobs was as a volunteer and when I had my final interview the recruiters were very interested in my activities I performed while I had this job.
- Don’t forget to write your personal information such as full name, telephone number, email address and attach a professional passport size picture.
