Are you afraid to apply because you are not sure if your weight is acceptable? You must have heard so many rumors about how cabin crew needs to be all slim and pretty. Well, that’s not true.
Don’t be afraid, you don’t have why. Nowadays, the airlines don’t request for their applicants to have a slim waist and fit in that perfect model body. The weight requirement changed a lot compared to how it used to be in the past.
Nowadays the airlines ask that your weight be proportional to your height. That’s all. What means that? It means that you don’t need to be a supermodel.
I’m not a supermodel and I worked for one of the best airlines in the world. As an example, I’m 168 cm in height and 65 kg. So see? I’m not a supermodel. And guess what! I flew with crew that were even chubbier that me, also even slimmer. It does not matter that much. As long as your weight is proportional with your height and you are healthy then your on the good way.
Now lets talk about height. Well, when it comes to this the airlines do have some requirements.. Generally, the average height for cabin crew, depending on the airline is somewhere between 159cm (5 feet, 2 inches) and 189cm (6 feet, 2 inches). However, a lot of airlines now conduct reach tests (Qatar, Emirates and Etihad), where you are required to reach with your arm extended 212 cm (Etihad requires to reach 210cm) . You are permitted to stand on tiptoe to carry out this test. Its not about how tall or how short you are, its about how much you can actually stretch to reach to the height they are asking.
